Growing With Your Kids: A Journey of Mutual Transformation

Blueprint #22: Growing With Your Kids

Lesson: The Inevitable Change

There was a time when I could easily lift my kids, Grace and Lily, over my head. Now, things are different. Lilly has developed a fear of heights, and physically, it's become difficult for me to lift them like I used to. This change hit me when Grace asked to sleep in our bed. Even though my partner, Amy, wasn't keen on the idea, I said yes. Why? Because these moments are fleeting. One day, Grace won't want to sleep in our bed at all, and I want to cherish these times while they last.

Parenting is full of little moments that add up to big changes over time. We see our kids go through these changes, but it's easy to forget that we're changing too. Realizing I couldn't lift my kids anymore was a small but significant moment. It reminded me that change is constant and it's happening to all of us—not just physically, but emotionally and mentally too.

Insight: Embracing Our Evolution

It's important to see these changes not just as challenges, but as beautiful opportunities to grow. As our kids change, we change too. Recognizing and embracing our own evolution is just as important as supporting our kids through theirs.

This situation made me think about how we need to adapt as parents and as people. Just like I adjust to what my kids need right now, in business, we must evolve and adapt to what our teams need. It's all about growing and changing together.

Action Item: Commit to Personal Growth

Think about what you can do today to embrace change and grow personally. Maybe it's picking back up a hobby you've neglected, taking better care of your health, or just taking a moment to reflect on your own life changes. Each small step you take is part of your larger journey of growth.

So, what will you do today to grow for your kids?
