The Season Where Everything Needs You
Lesson: The Paradox of Your 40s
I’m 45 now. For the first time in my life, I feel clear about who I am, what I’m good at, and who I can call when things get hard. The network is there. The skills are sharp. The clarity I spent my 30s chasing finally showed up. But there’s a paradox to this stage of life. The exact moment when you’re most equipped to build is also when everything else needs you the most.
Insight: Capability and Responsibility Arrive Together
- Peak Capability Comes With Peak Demand: The same season where you’re ready to build meaningful things is also when family, health, and relationships require more of your attention.
- Life Stops Being Sequential: In your 20s and 30s, you can focus on one thing at a time. Later on, everything arrives together: business, kids, parents, health, legacy.
- Not Everything Needs Fixing: Standing by the ocean in Hawaii last week, I realized something simple. This isn’t a problem to solve. It’s just a season to navigate with intention.
Feeling stretched doesn’t mean you’re falling behind. It usually means you’re right where you’re supposed to be.
Action Item: Navigate the Season Intentionally
- Name Your Priorities Clearly - Write down the few things that truly deserve your energy right now.
- Accept the Tension - Some seasons require you to carry multiple responsibilities at once. That’s normal.
- Choose Presence Over Perfection - You don’t have to solve everything. Sometimes the job is simply to show up well.
